The LM358M is made up of two independent, high gain, internally frequency adjusted operational amplifiers that were designed to operate across a wide variety of voltages from a single power source. The low power supply current drain is independent of the amount of the power supply voltage, allowing operation from split power supplies.
Transducer amplifiers, dc gain blocks, and all traditional op-amp circuits are among the applications that may now be implemented more simply in single power supply systems. The LM158 series, for example, may run directly off the normal +5V power supply voltage used in digital systems, providing the essential interface electronics without the need for additional 15V power supplies.
